Sporty & active holidays in the Wels region

Our tips for discovering the region in a sporty & active way!

The most beautiful corners of a region are often inaccessible by car; you have to conquer them yourself with a bit of sporting activity. However, the best views, the most beautiful landscapes or simply quiet places to relax are usually waiting right there.

With the racing bike into the orchard hills

Magnificent blossoming fruit trees, the buzzing of bees and the chirping of birds from their mighty crowns, colourful flower meadows and juicy, sweet fruit - orchards are simply heavenly. In 2005, the 26 km² nature reserve "Obst-Hügel-Land Nature Park" was designated with the aim of preserving and further developing this cultural landscape, which is characteristic of the Upper Austrian Alpine foothills.

In spring, the blossoms of the countless cherry, pear and apple trees transform the landscape into a sea of white flowers. This time of year is particularly inviting for a hike or cycle tour in the Obst-Hügel-Land. A glass of refreshing Schartner or Samarein cider and a hearty snack in a cosy cider tavern or a down-to-earth inn also make the breaks an enjoyable experience.

The route starts along the River Traun, leads upstream to the exhibition centre and through the zoo. It continues through the Volksgarten into the city centre with a view of the Lederer Tower. Along the Mühlbach stream, you pass the Minorite monastery and reach Wels Castle with its castle garden. From there you return to the Traun - a relaxed circular route full of variety.
